BOTOX

Remember when you were younger and more carefree and worries were considerably fewer, before the accumulated stressors of life had their opportunity to etch themselves into your appearance? Well, we may not be able to turn back time (yet!), but we can certainly help you look a little more relaxed – you might even feel a little more relaxed when you see in the mirror the less-stressed person you once were!

Botox is a quick and effective remedy that can temporarily diminish or eliminate facial lines and wrinkles that age, stress, worry, and environmental factors can produce, even on a younger person’s face. Botox treatment can smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, on your forehead, between your eyes, and at the base of your nose, and wrinkles at the corners of your eyes (“crow’s feet”) fade or may even disappear. Though there may be a dramatic change in your appearance, giving you a more youthful, revitalized, and rested appearance, with the proper injection technique Dr. Moya provides, only you will know what’s behind it!

How does Botox work?

Over the years, frowning, squinting, and even smiling gradually contribute to specific facial wrinkles (called dynamic wrinkles, since they are a result of facial expression and muscle movement). Injection of Botox into the muscles responsible for these movements blocks the nerve signal and decreases muscle contraction, relaxing the underlying facial muscles. This will not only visibly smooth your lines and wrinkles, but will also temporarily lessen any further contributions to deepening these lines and wrinkles. You should not, with proper technique, lose the ability to show expression. Because Botox affects only muscle nerves (not nerves of sensation), you will not lose feeling in the treated areas.

Is Botox right for me?

If you have facial lines and wrinkles caused by repeated muscle contractions over the years, Botox injections can temporarily decrease or even eliminate these. Dr. Moya will discuss your treatment goals and, after a thorough evaluation, will recommend the treatment plan that’s right for you.

What can I expect during a Botox session?

In order to determine your optimal treatment, Dr. Moya will have you contract certain facial muscles to determine precisely where to inject Botox. Because the procedure is quick and has minimal, if any, discomfort (some describe as a “pinch”), you do not need anesthesia. You will, however, be given a cold compress to help numb the targeted area prior to injection; this will also help to minimize or eliminate any bruising or needle marks. A tiny needle will be used to inject Botox into those muscles contributing to your lines & wrinkles.  The number of injections you receive will depend on their severity and location on your face. Because it generally takes only 10 to 15 minutes (following proper assessment), Botox is often described as a “lunchtime procedure”, since this can be done in such a short time and you can immediately return to your daily activities. It is important, however, not to vigorously rub the injected areas for several hours after your treatment, as this has the potential to move the Botox into unwanted areas.

When will I see results?

While you will not see results immediately after treatment (since Botox takes time to relax the muscles), you may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours, and should see full results within three to seven days. Results typically last three to four months, after which your muscles will slowly begin to regain movement, with gradual return of your lines and wrinkles as well. At that point, if you feel that you would like to continue treatment, you should schedule a repeat session in order to maintain your results.

How is treatment cost calculated?

Your cost not only includes the price of the product, but, more importantly, the skill and expertise of the person administering your treatment. Dr. Moya, as a board-certified plastic surgeon and a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, has trained extensively in the delivery of Botox injections, and has, through years of experience, developed his own injection technique. He takes into consideration the strength of your facial muscles that are causing the wrinkles and your previous history of Botox use prior to recommending the number of units and injections per treatment area for the most natural-looking result.

Treatments complementary to Botox

Dr. Moya will do a thorough evaluation of your facial anatomy and discuss with you your cosmetic goals. You may find that you desire additional treatments that can add to the results obtained from Botox, such as soft tissue fillers, which can be performed in combination with Botox to save you time.
